EMD F UNIT PHASE IDENTIFICATION

Something that is often confusing to railfans and model railroaders is how to distinguish EMD F unit phases.  Listed below is a summary of what I have gleaned from various sources.  What I believe are the generally accepted, main identifying features are highlighted:
FTA - four portholes, (if dynamic brakes rectangular boxes on top in front of, behind and along side the cooling fans).
F2A & F3A ph 1 - three portholes, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top behind cab).
F3A ph 2 early - two portholes, chicken wire screen from cab windows to rear of unit and between portholes, high shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top behind cab).
F3A ph 2 late - two portholes, chicken wire screen from cab windows to rear of unit and between portholes, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top behind cab).
F3A ph3 - two portholes, chicken wire screen from cab windows to rear of unit, louvered vents between portholes, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top behind cab).
F3A ph4 - two portholes, horizontal grille from cab windows to rear of unit, louvered vents between portholes, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top behind cab).
F7A ph1 early - two portholes, horizontal grille from cab windows to rear of unit, louvered vents between portholes, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes a 5th fan on top same size as cooling fans).
7FA ph1 late - two portholes, horizontal grille from cab windows to rear of unit, louvered vents between portholes, low shrouds on fans, no overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes a 5th fan on top same size as cooling fans).
F7A ph 2 - two portholes, vertical slit grille from cab windows to rear of unit, vertical slit vents between portholes, low shrouds on fans, no overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes a larger 5th fan on top).
F9A - two portholes, vertical slit grille from cab windows to rear of unit, vertical slit vents between portholes, portholes closer together and extra vertical slit vent between portholes and cab door, (if dynamic brakes a larger 5th fan on top).
FTB - four portholes; some FTBs have 5th porthole on one side indicating optional hostler controls, (if dynamic brakes rectangular boxes on top in front of, behind and along side the cooling fans).
F2B & F3B ph 1 - three portholes, chicken wire screen over grille openings, small grille openings at end on sides, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top).
F3B ph 2 early - three portholes, chicken wire screen over grille openings, larger grille opening at end on sides, high shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top).
F3B ph 2 late & F3B ph3 - three portholes, chicken wire screen over grille openings, larger grille opening at end on sides, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top).
F3B ph4 - three portholes, horizontal grille, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes two rectangular grilles on top).
F7B ph1 early - three portholes, horizontal grille, low shrouds on fans, pointed overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes a 5th fan on top same size as cooling fans).
F7B ph1 late - three portholes, horizontal grille, low shrouds on fans, no overhang on roof at rear, (if dynamic brakes a 5th fan on top same size as cooling fans).
F7B ph 2 & F9B - three portholes, vertical slit grille(if dynamic brakes a larger 5th fan on top).
